Presentation: Commercial Imperatives of Autonomous Aircraft Design for Light Freight Transport
Chris’ presentation will cover a detailed look at Capex vs Useful payload vs Range with new/novel aircraft designs incorporating emerging technologies. Illustrated by the most recent project examples available in 2025.


Speaker: Chris Pickering
Chris Pickering started his career as an RNZAF Navigator flying on Andover, C130 and P3 aircraft.  

He is Involved with the New Southern Sky initiative and currently sits on the Emerging Aviation Technology Forum with CAA/Industry.  Chris is a Programme Manager involved with major UAV development project looking at use of eVTOL UAVs for light freight transport above the NZ Rail Corridor.  

Most recently Chris was involved in the ShieldAI VBAT advanced VTOL UAV demonstration in the Hauraki Gulf. 

He holds a PPL and is passionate about all forms of emerging technologies and their implications for the future of the Aviation System.
