Background
Mike O’Rourke is a semi-retired ophthalmologist based in Tauranga with a special interest and training in Retinal and Paediatric eye conditions. He is a classic plane enthusiast and aerobatic pilot.
Mike originated in Zimbabwe and underwent medical school and a four year ophthalmology fellowship training in Capetown before moving to New Zealand in 1993 where he had to retrain in ophthalmology from the beginning. He has a RANZCO fellowship and higher subspecialty training in Paediatrics and Retina in Sydney, returning to New Zealand in 1999 to provide consultant ophthalmology services in Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty.
